Passing out Ceremony

The Passing out Ceremony takes place in the first two weeks of July and is normally presided by His Majesty the King Felipe de Borbón y Grecia. His Majesty, former cadet at the Academia General Militar, was commissioned as an Infantry Lieutenant in the very same Parade Ground in July 1989.

Once cadets achieve the goal of being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, the teaching training period ends and it is time to begin their professional careers in different Units of the Army. Then it will be necessary for them to apply the values, knowledge and leadership skills learned at the Academia. Most of the newly-graduated Officers will soon take part in tours of duty abroad where the Spanish Army is deployed.

The sequence of acts is as follows:

  • Honors to the presiding authority of the event and troops inspection.
  • Awards ceremony and the handing-over of the First Lieutenant Commission to the Valedictorians.
  • The Handing-over of the First Lieutenant Commission to the rest of the Officers.
  • Commandant’s speech.
  • Homage to the ones who gave their life for Spain.
  • Academia General Militar Anthem.
  • Withdrawal of the forces and parade.
  • Falling out.
