Antarctic Campaing

The 2016-2017 Spanish Antarctic Campaign will last about 100 days. During that period, research projects will take place; they will be funded by the Spanish State plan for Technical and Scientific Research and Innovation (PECTI) (2013-2016).

The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) contributes to this activity with 8 million euros directed to fund logistics, facilities, and most of the research project that will be developed at the Antarctic campaign. One Spain project will take place aboard the German ship ''Polarstern'', while 2 Portuguese research groups and 1 from Australia will be doing their research at the Spanish Antarctic Stations.

The ''Sarmiento de Gamboa'' ship will likely depart from Punta Arena (Chile) earlier in December..........The Campaign will finish around March 10th when the ‘Hespérides’ vessel goes back to Ushaia from the Antarctic.

The following are the details of the 12 scientific projects funded by the Spanish State plan for Technical and scientific Research and Innovation 2013-2016. (The Spanish project that will take place aboard the German ship Polarstern is not included here). They will be developed during this campaign at the Spanish Antarctic Stations and the Spanish polar research vessel, BIO “Hespérides.”
