Four of the five units that make up the new “San Marcial” division, headquartered in the “Diego Porcelos” barracks (Burgos), completed a series of cooperative exercises from January 25 to the 29th in the Aragonese Pyrenees and Almargo (Cuidad Real). The purpose of the exercises was to synergize and integrate the various capabilities of each unit.
The 66th Mountain Infantry Regiment “America” and the 6th Paratrooper Brigade “Almogávares” carried out the “INTECAP” IV capability integration exercise in the Aragonese Pyrenees. It involved several training sessions to enhance mutual knowledge of capabilities and procedures in order to work together in an aerial assault operation in a sub-alpine winter environment.
At the same time in Almargo (Cuidad Real), units from the Army´s Special Operations and Aerial Forces Command carried out the “INTECAP” III exercise to instruct and train the flight crews of Tiger and Superpuma/Cougar helicopters and the special operations teams.
The new “San Marcial” division is tasked with creating and training units with very specific rapid deployment capabilities, which brought together the Army`s immediate response teams under a single command last January. These teams include the 6th Paratrooper Brigade “Almogávares,” the Special Operations Command, the Army´s Aerial Forces, the Mountain Troop Command, and the 1st Information Operations Regiment.
The organization of the new “San Marcial” division guarantees, with all available resources, the quick and easy creation of the capabilities required by the Defense Chief of Staff.
