Swedish Service Personnel Train on ‘San Gregorio’

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Number: 1819

The routes and roads of ‘San Gregorio’ National Training Centre, in Zaragoza, will be travelled daily for the next three weeks by two Swedish Army MBT 122 main battle tanks and a recuperation vehicle.

The Scandinavian servicepersons wished to confirm the behaviour of this recently acquired vehicle in high temperature and dust,, as well as to check whether the modifications and improvements that they have introduced in one of them (such as air conditioning for the driver and in the turret, the new thermal camera or insulation to reduce heat, among others),are adequate for the desert environment.

Likewise, they will put the capabilities of the ARV 120 B recuperation vehicle, which includes anti-mine protection, to the test in a hot climate.

For this, they have scheduled daily routes of between 50 and 70 kilometres throughout the training camp.  In previous months they had undertaken prior reconnaissance, to assure that the National Training Centre characteristics were suited to their purpose.  Their arrival in Zaragoza took place on 6th August and they devoted the first week to carrying out static tests and making last-minute preparations.

The National Training Centre collaborates by lending installations and logistic infrastructure, while the 41st Logistic Support Group provided support to the Swedish delegation in debarking materiel.
