The Main Light Forces Reconnaissance Units Undergo Joint Training

Friday, April 27, 2012

Number: 1583

Exercise ‘Largo Alcance’ was carried out from 22nd to 27th April on Base ‘General Morillo’ in Figueirido (Pontevedra). In this command post exercise undergoing joint training were 7th Cavalry Reconnaissance Group ‘Santiago’ (from 7th Light Infantry Brigade ‘Galicia’), 2nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Group ‘Reyes Católicos’  (from the Legion Brigade), the Paratroops Brigade Forward Reconnaissance Company and the Mountain Troop Headquarters Skier Climber Company.

All the units have practiced and shared working procedures within the framework of a manoeuvre support operation in an asymmetric environment.  In this context, 7th Brigade ‘Galicia’ Intelligence Security Target structure has also been executed, in which information procurement undertaken by the units is co-ordinated and intelligence is produced.

The exercise, whose direction has corresponded to the commander of the 7th Brigade, General Alonso, originated with the aim of unifying, practising and validating procedures, both in planning as well as conducting and employment of reconnaissance units.  As a preparatory activity, in March a seminar was undertaken from which the operational procedures that have now been practised were extracted.

Throughout the exercise in all 80 main incidents were injected, all the tactics, techniques and procedures created for Cavalry groups were practised, 17 operational documents were produced and over 600 messages were emitted, including tactical chat.

Both planning and conducting the exercise have reflected the importance had in present conflicts by the population, laws and uses of war, media and social communication, as well as the co-ordination with the multiple existing actors in the area of operations.
