The members of the 11th Engineering Specialties Regiment (REI 11 by its Spanish acronym) have completed the improvement of the facilities at the national training centre “CENAD” in Chinchilla, Albacete. This is part of the preparation of the infrastructures required for the exercise Trident Juncture 15 within the framework of the Functional Plan of Engineers Activities (PFAING).

The 1/11th Road Battalion cleared a 17,600 m2 esplanade which will serve as living area and parking area for heavy vehicles, and another measuring 6,600 m2 for the fuelling centre which will be used during the exercise. It also repaired several roadways in the area.

For its part, the 2/11th Camp Building Battalion repaired and conditioned the living quarters of the training centre (cleaning up the drainage system, mending the floors, walls and ceilings of containers…). The 101 containers of the living area are installed permanently on concrete slabs set up in groups of eight and protected by a metal covering.

The works were carried out from 15 June to 27 August at extreme temperatures of over 40º C (more than 100º F).

Last Friday 11 July, REI 11 Coronel Antonio Villalba Garcés handed over the said installations to Coronel José Luis Betolaza Méndez, director of CENAD.

These activities are considered part of the Engineer Units’ training and contribute to improving their technical preparation, resource management and works supervision as well as to learning lessons from experience.
