The Army organises the 13th War Correspondent Workshops for media professionals

They will take place in Madrid and Toledo from 26 to 30 September. The registration period runs from 22 June to 15 July

13th War Correspondent Workshops

The 13th War Correspondent Workshops are being jointly organised by the Army’s War College, the Department of Communication, units stationed in Madrid, Toledo and Asturias, and the driving school ILUNION. They will begin on 26 September.

The workshops, aimed at professionals working for news organisations, seek to share the Army’s experience in foreign operations. Their main objective is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills which will allow them to carry out their job in a crisis or conflict zone. The Army has been offering this training to journalists for over a decade, putting its knowledge, expertise and skills at their disposal.

Training includes information on health prevention and basic life support, self-protection measures, materiel used in operations, driving and maintenance of vehicles, survival in contaminated areas, mine and IED awareness, and bivouac construction and transportation.

It also comprises practical workshops on mines and IEDs, boarding, driving, and daytime and nighttime field operations embedded in tactical units. Participants will travel on helicopter, SUV and combat vehicle.

Public information officers and journalists who have spent time in conflict areas will give talks about their experiences on the closing day of the workshops.

The number of participants is limited to 25 due to organisational constraints. They will be selected by the Department of Communication. The course is free, but participants from outside Madrid will be responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses. Applicants will know whether they have been selected by the last week of August.
