Number:
The Bétera (Valencia) NATO HQ deploys in Poland.
Today, a flight with the last 135 troops has departed, making a total of 340 soldiers from Valencia military bases deployed in Poland.
24th May 16.- Exercise “Brilliant Jump” started on the 13th of May, after receiving the order which activated the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), this year under command of HQ NATO Rapid Deployable Corp Spain (HQ NRDC ESP), located in Bétera, Valencia.
This new force was tailored in the Wales Summit in 2014, and it is now that it will be certified for the first time, with Spain acting as leader nation, and providing most of the troops for this exercise (more than 1300).
Yesterday, Lieutenant General Francisco Javier Varela Salas, HQ NRDC ESP Commander and VJTF Commander in 2016, joined the exercise in Poland.
In total, 340 troops from Valencia military bases have deployed in Poland:
· From Bétera: 118 troops of HQ NRDC ESP, 124 troops of the Support Battallion, 24 troops of Military Police Battallion.
· From Marines: 74 troops of the Signals Unit supporting HQ NRDC ESP, which is part of Signals Regiment 21.
Brilliant Jump is scheduled to finish on the 27th of May, and after that, Spain will perform another exercise in Poland until the 10th of June -Valiant Falcon 16-, this time for training its employment as very high readiness force.
During 2016, the Spanish Army, through Bétera HQ NRDC-ESP, leads the Land Component Command of the VJTF, which includes a spearhead based on the Light Infantry Brigade Galicia VII (BRILAT), as well as a forward support element of the Logistic Operational Force. This very high readiness land force is the most visible measure of the new plan adopted by the 28 allies to improve our response capability to any crisis 360º around the alliance.
