The Commander of the NATO Land Command (LANDCOM) located in IZMIR (Turkey), United Stated Lieutenant General Frederick Hodges, visited the facilities of the Spanish Rapid Deployable Corps Headquarters (HQ NRDC-ESP) located in Betera on the 26th of Marchto foster the relationship between both headquarters.
NRDC ESP Commander, Spanish Lieutenant General Rafael Comas Abad, provided him with an update about the certification   process in which HQ NRDC-ESP is currently fully involved to become the first Joint Task Force Headquarters in NATO.
Lieutenant General Hodges was also updated about the implications that the Live Exercise Trident Juncture that will be carried out in Spain in 2015 will have for HQ NRDC-ESP. Exercise Trident Juncture (TRJT) will be a multilevel, joint, multinational exercise that will be run in two phases: a computer assisted command post exercise from the 03rd to the 16th of October 2015 to train and certify the NATO Response Force (NRF 16) whose Land Component Command (LCC) will be led by HQ NRDC-ESP.
More than 20000 will participate in the second phase that will take place from the 21st to the 06th of November 2015. This exercise will involve a significant number of land, maritime and air forces that will be deployed mainly in Spain. The purpose of this training is overarched by the new NATO Connected Forces Initiative (CFI) and the aim is to keep the standards of interoperability reached by NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The units will deploy in San Gregorio range (Zaragoza), Chinchilla (Albacete), el Retín (Cádiz) and Santa Margarida (Portugal). Although the decision about the deployment of the command posts has not been taken yet, Zaragoza seems to be the best option for TRJE 15 due to its capabilities, extension, extraordinary facilities and proximity to San Gregorio range where most of the unit will be deployed.
