The exercise ‘Gripho’ took place from Oct. 24th – 28th. One of the main tasks in this exercise has been taking back the unit´s operational ability that have been polluted by nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological agents. This exercise, the most important of its kind done by Army, has been organized by the ‘Valencia’ 1, NBC Regiment.

The framework of the exercise ‘Gripho’ has been this time a NATO article 5 mission. The drill setting: an Allied country that has been occupied by a neighboring country in possession of nuclear weapons. The program included activities such as: specialized reconnaissance, total decontamination, sampling, and NBC casualties’ evacuation modus operandi in polluted areas. All this in an area of 3,500 square kms in the Spanish provinces of Valencia and Castellón.

Besides the Land Force NBC units, the Health Service Brigade and the unit from the Canary Islands Commmand joined. Also, there were bridges’ engineers n.12 observers from the Italian Navy and Army. The support was given from the Transmissions´ Regiment, 21, Cavalry ‘Lusitania 8’ and Militar Police Units from different countries. All of them participated in the exercise ‘Angel Guardian.’
