The rain which fell on Valladolid during the first week of April did not prevent the Sappers from the 1st Engineering Regiment from completing their first company-level exercise of the year at the training field and shooting range Renedo-Cabezón. The exercise included a live fire drill and the launching of a Dornier support bridge, among other activities.

The live fire drill was part of the training of the 1st company, which also included route reconnaissance and clearance, security measures during operations, instinctive shooting with individual weapons and several shooting exercises with heavy machineguns and C90 grenade launchers.

The Support Company was charged with deploying the bridge, which served to practise reconnaissance and procedures to cross rivers. Their EOD teams carried drills in an environment of IED threat, as well as engineering intelligence reconnaissance.

The activities concluded with a joint tactical exercise which brought together all of the sappers’ available capabilities.
