VJTF Brigade carries out exercise ‘Azor Lineage’ in Lugo

NATO’s VJTF Brigade (Very High Readiness Joint Task Force) is undergoing training at the exercise field and shooting range “Parga” (Lugo) within the framework of the exercise “Azor Lineage” I/16, which runs from 25 to 28 January.

“Azor Lineage” is a Command Post Exercise (CPX) which aims at integrating Brigade HQ and subordinate units at battalion level and training staff officers on the process of planning and executing operations. The bulk of the VJTF Brigade comes from the 7th Light Infantry Brigade “Galicia” but it also includes five battalions from the other contributing countries. As a result, soldiers taking part in the exercise come not only from Spain, but also from Belgium, the UK, Portugal, Poland and Albania.

The goals of the exercise include improving the interoperability of the VJTF Brigade; familiarising participants with the different tools of the command and control system and with the internal procedures of VJTF Brigade HQ; synchronising the activities and procedures of the different command posts; and planning and carrying out high intensity operations integrating the different combat functions.

The planning phase of this exercise developed from early September last year to this January. Deployment took place from 22 to 25 January. Redeployment is scheduled for 29 January. The assessment phase will run from 28 January to 4 March.
