Eurocorps and the General Staff of the European Union, represented by Spanish Lieutenant General Alfredo Ramírez and his Austrian counterpart, Wolfgang Wosolsobe, respectively, signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two organisations on 18 January in Brussels.

The framework agreement expresses the organisations’ mutual interest in a closer relationship and in the coordination of their common activities, and includes collaboration in fields such as the exchange of information, instruction and training, and a more efficient response to crises.

The agreement constitutes a step closer to Eurocorps becoming the most important military asset of the European Union, able to intervene in the whole range of operations pertaining to the management of crisis situations.

Eurocorps is a multinational, deployable and autonomous Headquarters at the service of its member states (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain) as well as of the European Union, NATO and other international organisations. Its mission is to be ready to plan and conduct land operations across the full operational spectrum.
