The Melilla General Command has once again been one of the main sponsors of the Nautical Week “Ciudad de Melilla – Trofeo V Centenario” which celebrated its 19th edition in the autonomous city from 5 to 9 August.

All the units in the city opened the doors of their museums and historical halls to the crowds of journalists and visitors who took part in the event, one of the most important in the Spanish nautical calendar, so they could learn about their history.

Guided tours were organised to visit the historical halls of the Legion Regiment “Gran Capitán”, the Melilla Regulars Group, the 32nd Mixed Artillery Regiment (RAMIX), the Melilla Sea Company and the 24th Logistic Unit (ULOG).

For the sixth year running, the traditional cannon salute marked the start of the boat races from the Melilla marina. It was fired by a Schneider 75/22 mountain cannon of the 32nd RAMIX, with its crew and chief wearing period costumes.

Sea Company

For its part, the Sea Company (representing the 24th ULOG) collaborated actively in the event by towing boats, transporting members of the organising committee and media personnel to the site of the race and assisting and supporting boat crews.

In particular, the contribution of the Sea Company was crucial during the XII “Two continents” boat race. It accompanied and supported the participants over more than 50 nautical miles, from the Melilla port to the Chafarinas Islands and back.

The XIX edition of the Nautical Week was characterised by the high level of the crews, who sailed boats from Andalusia, Valencia and Ceuta. For the third year in a row, the Spanish Sailing Federation chose this setting to decide the winner of the Spanish Championship - Southern Area.
