The 22nd Signals Regiment is celebrating Christmas with the installation of the traditional Nativity Scene in the Cathedral in Burgos. The opening took place on 18th December and it may be visited until 6th January next during the morning (from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm) or evening (from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm).

In charge of the presentation was the commander of Heavy Forces, General Miguel Alcañiz, along with civilian and military authorities from the city.  As well, a representation from the 22nd Signals Regiment and the Cathedral Chapter has attended.

This year, the Nativity Scene –one of the largest in Spain, at 180 square metres- will include five new scenes, fifty new original figures, a new Jerusalem temple, an erupting volcano, and nine natural bonsais for the garden of Gethsemane.  Now as it is, it has 1,300 original figures; waterfalls, rivers, fountains, as well as ponds with fish and turtles; also, there is a completely computerized system that synchronises the rain, fog and snow effects, along with the model’s sunsets and sunrises.

Since it was placed in the cloister under the cathedral for the first time in 1992, this initiative has collected and distributed 133,355 Euros over the years for the social work of 25 NGOs, as well as for the temple’s restoration, which makes the Nativity Scene one of the city’s most important charitable projects.  Intervening in its set-up have been more than 20 people and nine military trucks (for its transport), and 10,000 watts of electricity have been used for its illumination.
