The Chief of the Army Staff, Army General Jaime Domínguez Buj, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, and the vice-chancellor of the Complutense University at Madrid, Dr. Juan Ferrera Cuesta, signed, on 23rd November, a collaboration agreement between both institutions for the creation of the ‘Special Department on Military History’.

Attending the ceremony, held at Buenavista Palace, Army Headquarters, were the professors representing this department –which will be taught at the Complutense University at Madrid’s Faculty of Geography and History- and on behalf of the military, among others, the director of the Military History and Culture Institute –one of the sponsors of the activities to be carried out within the programme, which represents the Ministry of Defence-, General Francisco Ramos Oliver.

After the signing of the agreement, both the Chief of the Army Staff and the vice-chancellor of the Complutence University at Madrid delivered addresses in which the fine harmony existing between the Army and the University was reflected.  The Chief of the Army Staff affirmed that the creation of this department was ‘good for the University, the Army and for those who are going to have the opportunity to learn about this part of the History of Spain’.

The implementation of this department will result in undertaking seminars, lecture cycles, jointly carrying out –among Armed Forces and teaching personnel- research projects, study activities and specific projects within the scope of Military History, as well as annually holding a course on specific aspects of this material.
