Monday, August 20, 2012

Number: 1823

On 18th August 2011Corporal Lady Legionnaire Paratrooper Arantxa López died in the locality of Casas de Uceda (Guadalajara) as a result of an accident during the undertaking of a scheduled parachute jump on manoeuvres.  Her fellow soldiers, friends and relatives wished to remember her on the first anniversary of her death with various tributes.

At the cemetery in Corporal López’s birthplace, Galaroza (Huelva), the tribute with her family was held.  The ceremony, in which there was a floral offering, was presided over by Major Pedro García and Major Juan Garaboa, both from the Paratroops Brigade.

Also on 18th August, the members of the 31st Spanish  Force in Afghanistan Logistic Unit, detached on Base ‘Ruy González de Clavijo’ in Qala-i-Naw (Afghanistan), held a simple tribute ceremony in memory of Corporal López, posted to the Paratroops Logistic Group.  The ceremony was presided over by the commander of Task Force ASPFOR XXXI, Colonel Luis Cebrián.

Following this, the tribute to those who have given their lives for Spain took place before the monolith situated on the base parade ground, which concluded with the call to prayer.  Later, a mandate from paratroops ideology was recited   —given that the Paratroops Brigade is the core unit of Task Force ASPFOR XXXI— and it finalised with the parade of the participating force.
