The Canary Island Command Headquarters Inaugurates its Centre of Studies

The Canary Island Command Headquarters Centre of Studies 'General Valeriano Weyler' was officially inaugurated on 14th November, in a ceremony presided over by the commander of the Canary Island Command, Lieutenant General César Muro.

This Centre has the aim of improving and perfecting officer training, by means of a programme of lectures, talks, discussions and seminars of an informative and professional nature.

The topics to be discussed are grouped into six large areas: the current national situation (activities related with production of regulations or doctrine), current events in the Canary Islands (related with the archipelago’s public and private organisations of the greatest relevance), lessons learned (activities or operations already undertaken that are of general interest), trends (questions of doctrine or material, related with the Spanish Armed Forces or those of allied countries), history (especially that related with the Canary Islands and Canary Island Command units) and international (conflicts and situations of special military interest).

The lectures will be delivered by personnel posted to the Canary Island Command itself, who have experience in, and knowledge of, the subjects to be discussed. The opening lecture was given by General Emilio Abad, Reserve, former commander of the Canary Island Command Staff, with the title ‘Berbers in Canary Islands. An Enigma and a Small Tower’.
