The Special Operations Command has finalized, in Exercise 'Brilliant Sword' from del 3 al 14 de October, on Base 'Alférez Rojas Navarrete' in Rabasa (Alicante), its preparation to lead the NATO Response Force Special Operations Component during the upcoming year.

In the exercise, its components have had to demonstrate their capabilities to conduct and undertake urban combat or mountain area operations, and their operational teams –made up with core troops from the 4th Special Operations Group- have had to successfully complete each of the training tower’s six stations, which include rescues, climbing, demolition or obstacle course.

Spain has become the third country in the world, after the United States and the United Kingdom, in leading the NATO Special Operations Component, since it had done so previously in the NATO Response Force’s 9th and 10th rotations. As well, the 3rd Special Operations Group and the 19th Special Operations Group have been the core to generate Special Operations Tactical Groups in various rotations, and the Special Operations Command has participated in Exercise "Noble Sword" along with Special Operations forces from Denmark, France and Lithuania.
