Five Wounded in Afghanistan Following the Explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device

An improvised explosive device exploded on 18th June in the vicinity of Ludina (Afghanistan) as a Spanish Lynx Light Multipurpose Vehicle passed while travelling on the Lithium route. As a result of the explosion, its five occupants were wounded: Lieutenant A.G.B., Privates J.G.L., A.Q.S. and I.M.I., as well as a civilian interpreter.

The first three were evacuated to the Role 2 hospital in Bala Murghab. Lieutenant A.G.B. and Private J.G.L. suffered the most serious wounds and both underwent the amputation of a leg, while Private A.Q.S. had various injuries and a fractured leg. All three underwent surgery. The private, who was driving the armoured vehicle, had to receive ophthalmological treatment –for an eye injury- at the Role 3 hospital in Kandahar. The other wounded, with various contusions, were transferred to the Role 2 hospital in Herat, where they were stabilised.

Private J.G.L. is posted to 47th Light Infantry Regiment "Palma", with headquarters in Palma de Mallorca, while the other three servicepersons belong to 9th Light Infantry Regiment "Soria”, situated in Fuerteventura.
