The Melilla General Command has wished to join in the commemorative events for the Engineers 3rd centenary. For this motive, it has scheduled a series of activities, which begin today, 28th April, with a lecture at the Armed Forces Cultural Centre (Military Club), within the framework for the Cultural Thursdays. It will begin at eight o’clock in the evening and entrance is free of charge.
The speaker will be Colonel Carrillo de Albornoz, retired, a graduate in History from the National Open University and professor emeritus of the Engineer Academy. The colonel will examine the history of the military Engineers, from even before the creation of the Corps (17th April 1711) to the present day. This lecture will be followed by three others, which will be offered on 5th, 12th and 19th May.
Additionally, the Melilla General Command has scheduled a concert, on 24th May, which will include some pieces related with the Engineer Arm. Four days later, the 8th Engineer Regiment will play the key role in the hoisting of the Spanish Flag. These two events are also within the celebration of Armed Forces Day. As the finishing touch, there will be an exhibit of period uniforms, old materiel and photographs in the Military Club from 27th August until 11th September.
