Spanish military Task Force “ASPFOR XXVIII”, made up with core troops from 16th Light infantry Brigade “Canarias” from the Canary Island Command, which will deploy in Afghanistan in April next, has concluded its preparation.
For several months its 1,100 members, at the command of Colonel Juan Sevilla Gómez, current commander of 49th Light Infantry Regiment “Tenerife”, have undertaken a demanding preparation programme that includes a preparation and an instruction phase finalising with an operational evaluation and a concentration phase.
Both on the Pájara training camp, in Fuerteventura, and on the Hoya Fría Military Base in Tenerife, the members of Task Force “ASPFOR XXVIII” have shown their capability to undertake their mission at the heart of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolution 1386/2001.
