The Military “Falla” Pays Tribute to the People of Valencia

The Valencia "Fallas" festival queen on the day before the "cremà"

On 8th March the Armed Forces and Civil Guard offered their particular tribute to the people of Valencia with the celebration of the 23rd Military “Falla”.  The commander of the High Readiness Land Headquarters, Lieutenant General Fernando Sánchez-Lafuente, presided over the event held on Base "San Juan de la Ribera", which was attended by other civilian and military authorities.  Also present were the “Fallas” festival queen, Ms. Laura Caballero, and the children’s “Fallas” festival queen, Ms. Carmen Monzonís.

The event included a tribute to those who have given their life for Spain and a short military parade.  After this, there was a fireworks display, followed by the burning of the “fallas” figures, which were created by the artists Mr. Arturo Vallés and Mr.  Juanjo García.

The Armed Forces "Falla" in its 23rd festival

 Five days prior to this, on 3rd March, the High Readiness Land Headquarters Band offered a concert dedicated to the world of the “fallas”, which was conducted by Major Juan B. Meseguer. The Throne Room of the former Valencia Headquarters Palace was the scene chosen for the recital, which was presided over by Lieutenant General Sánchez-Lafuente.
