THE KING’S IMMEMORIAL REGIMENT UNDERTAKES THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD ACCORDING TO THE CUSTOMS OF THE PERIOD OF CHARLES III.

The relief has taken place at “Buenavista” Palace with 18th century uniform, voices, movements and music.
The “Old Guard of Castile” Battalion, belonging to the King’s 1st Immemorial Infantry Regiment, has undertaken today Friday at 12:00 pm, for the first time, the changing of the guard according to the customs of the period of the reign of Charles III, on the grounds of the old Alcalá Street guard corps at “Buenavista” Palace.
The ceremony, presided over by Brigadier General Juan Valentín-Gamazo de Cárdenas, Secretary General of the Army General Staff, has aimed to perpetuate the oldest Army traditions and share them with the general public.
The specific uniform employed by the soldiers has been the following:
CAPTAIN. Infantry Uniform (fusilier) of the “King’s Regiment” (blue with tricorne).
HONOUR SQUAD. Infantry Uniform (grenadier) of the “King’s Regiment”, of sappers (blue with Morion helmet).
OUTGOING GUARD. Infantry Uniform (fusilier) of Carlos III’s “Spain Regiment” (white with tricorne),with specific weapons and straps.
INCOMING GUARD. Infantry Uniform (fusilier) of Carlos III’s “King’s Regiment” (blue with tricorne), with specific weapons and straps.
BAND. Musician Uniform of Carlos III’s “´Spain Regiment” (white with tricorne), with period drums and fifes
The incoming guard has paraded with shouldered weapons, antique matchlock muskets, along with the Honour Squad, drums and fifes, Captain Commander of the Relief and a “Batallona” Flag (Carlos III period) to the relief ground. Then the six posts have been relieved, with period voices and movements, accompanied by a drum and fife from the Band.
Prior do beginning the Changing of the Guard Ceremony, the Commander of the Outgoing Section ordered the taking up of the posts by the six soldiers to be relieved (two at the Fire Brigade Gate, two at the Ambassadors Gate and two at the Alcalá Gate), as they paraded along the outside base perimeter accompanied by a drum from the War Band.
Finally, the outgoing guard retreated with the Honour Squad, the Captain Commander of the Relief, the Flag and Band, to the sound of drums and fifes along a route in the opposite direction to that of its incorporation, at a “regular pace” march and with shouldered weapons.
