THE 4TH COAST ARTILLERY REGIMENT CELEBRATES ITS 3RD CENTENARY

The 4th Coast Artillery Regiment, located on Base “Camposoto”, in San Fernando (Cádiz), will celebrate on 2nd May next, the 300th anniversary of its creation, and to commemorate this, it has prepared an extensive programme of activities in the island town which will culminate on 25th April with a military ceremony.

The commemorative events will start up in mid March, when an exposition on military materiel will be opened, which will remain at the Municipal Historical Museum from 15th to 21st March.

As well, during this time the period will open for the town’s school children to submit their works for the narrative and youth drawing contest.  The judges’ decisions will be made public on 14th April and the awards will be presented on the open day scheduled for 17th April.

Activities for the anniversary will include a lecture cycle on Artillery actions at important moments in the history of Spain, such as the Peninsular War and the strong link existing between Coast Artillery and the city of Cádiz. The lectures will take place at the town’s Convention Centre on 20th and 21st April.

As a preview of the principal ceremony, on 24th April, the “Las Cortes” Royal Theatre will host a concert of music by the Second Army Deputy Inspection General (South). For the climax of the celebrations, the King square will be the scene for a military ceremony that will include an Oath of Allegiance to the Flag by civilian personnel.  Those interested in taking part may sign up at the City Hall’s Municipal Registry or at the Deputy Regional Defence Office in Cádiz.
