Transfer of combat procedures in Spain

This week, the Maneuver and Live-Fire Training Area of “General Menacho” Base, home of the “Extremadura” XI Brigade in Badajoz, is the setting for an advanced bilateral training exercise between the “Saboya” Infantry Regiment No. 6 and the 5th Sub-Group “Força Nacional” of the Mechanized Brigade of the Portuguese Army.

The core of the operations focuses on the transfer of close-quarters battle procedures (CQB) and the execution of tactics for combat in urbanized areas. These disciplines require maximum technical precision, millimetric coordination, and immediate decision-making in highly hostile environments.

Exercise "Orion 26", led by the Portuguese Mechanized Brigade, is being conducted within the framework of the European Union Battlegroup (EUBG), comprising military personnel from Portugal, France, Italy, Romania, and Spain. During the maneuvers, around 1,300 troops have combined field training with Command Post exercises. The main objective of the exercise has been to integrate EUBG forces and ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) capabilities.
