The CBRN Defense Battalion I/1 carried out the exercise "Bernardo de Gálvez 24," in the Training Center (CENAD) "Chinchilla," in Albacete. During the exercise it continued to experiment with a multifunctional operational organization, combining in units of section and company entity, CBRN reconnaissance and decontamination capabilities.

Battalion personnel carried out rifle and pistol shooting, topography and combat exercises in built-up areas. They also took advantage of CENAD facilities to carry out heavy machine gun fire on a Contaminated Area Reconnaissance Vehicle, CBRN reconnaissance and sampling missions, and decontamination of personnel, material and vehicles.

During the last two days of the exercise, the units were trained in planning, conducting and executing CBRN missions within the framework of crisis response operations. In this phase, the soldiers faced different chemical and radiological events. The first event was carried out by a clandestine laboratory for synthesis of vesicant agent T, which was used to prepare chemical projectiles with which hostile forces attacked facilities essential to the fulfillment of the mission. In the second one, the multifunctional units faced attacks that were carried out through the use of radioactive sources.
