The Army Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary in the Alcázar

The Army Museum is in celebration. The 19th of July marks the 10th anniversary of its inauguration by the then Prince of Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbón, today King of Spain. To commemorate the anniversary, an exhibition has been installed detailing the activities organised by the museum throughout this decade, in which it has received over 2 million visitors.

Since its headquarters were transferred to the Alcázar in Toledo from the Hall of Realms in the Buen Retiro Palace in Madrid, the Museum has continued its work to reach out to the public.
Under the motto, “10 years in Toledo. Close to you, close to everyone”(“10 años en Toledo. Cerca de ti, cerca de todos”), the intention is to commemorate this anniversary whilst highlighting the museum’s aim to become an accessible space which constitutes a meeting point for citizens with Spanish history and the Army. In this regard, much work has been carried out including improvements to the content of its permanent exhibitions, the organisation of temporary exhibitions and activities aimed at audiences of all ages, the creation of new ways to visit the museum and their making available to the public.

The weath of the colletions in the Army Museum is undeniable. Amassed since 1803, when the Royal Military Museum was founded in Monteleón Palace in Madrid, the collections have been preserved to this today thanks to the reserach, conservation and dissemination carried out by the professionals at the Amry Museum.
