SPFOR XXX

On 15th January 2007, Task Force “Cádiz” (SPFOR XXX) began its mission in Bosnia Herzegovina, which lasted until May 2007.From now, Task Force SPFOR XXX will be in charge of the missions that the Spanish forces are assigned in operation Althea, which is carried out by the European Union in the Balkans.Under the command of Colonel Ulpiano Yráyzoz Díaz de Liaño, the force is made up of299 servicepeople, of whom 141 are from the Coast Artillery Command in San Fernando(Cádiz); the 4th Coast Artillery Regiment, the 5th Coast Artillery Regiment, the Coast Artillery Command Headquarters and the Coast Artillery Command Signals Unit.Another 106 forces belong to the Sea Brigade, 27 to the 21st Logistics Support Group based in Seville and 25 are from other units.

It is noteworthy that in this Task Force there are 18 servicepeople of foreign nationality (9 Colombians, 6 Ecuadorans, 2 Venezuelans and 1 Peruvian), all belonging to the Sea Brigade.The Spanish Task Force is integrated into the European Union force in Multinational Task Force “Salamandra”, based on Base “Europa” (Mostar), currently at the command of French General Daniel DAEHN, and made up of units from Italy, France, Germany, Albania, Morocco and Slovenia, in addition to Spain, once that on 2nd December 2004, this mission handed over from the NATO Stabilisation Force, giving rise to operation ALTHEA.
