ENHANCED FORWARD PRESENCE II

The Chiefs of State and Governrment of the Atlantic Alliance, in the last Warsaw’s Summit, agreed to develop the agreements of Wales, conducting an arranged answer, properly adapted to the challenges coming from the East and the South.

Being part of this answer and with the aim of raising the deterrence in the Eastern Flank of this Alliance, the NATO (OTAN in Spanish) has designed an Enhance Forward Presence eFP (“Presencia Avanzada Reforzada in Spanish), respecting the NATO-Russia Foundation Accord and being framed in the insurance measures in the allied territories approved at the Summit of Wales and set in the Summit of Warsaw.

The Enhanced Forward Presence has a defensive and a multinational character, concerning voluntary contributions, an interoperable nature, and it also possesses a capacity of deployment in the Baltic countries and in Poland.

The body of the eFP has been established in four (4) Battle Groups (BG) headed by Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, and the United States of America. The participation of Spain will be inside the frame of the BG headed by Canada and deployed in Latvia.

The second Spanish contingent (eFP II in Spanish) is formed by 330 soldiers from the 10th Brigade “Guzmán el Bueno” (with garrison in Córdoba and Bilbao), the Logistical Unit/NSE, formed by personnel of the 21st Group of Logistical Support (Seville), the 11th AALOG Madrid, the 10th Logistical Group (Córdoba) and the 21st Signals Regiment (Valencia).

The unit of Manoeuvre is organized through a Mechanised Tactical subgroup made up of units equiped by armoured means, with six Leopardo 2E MBT.  and mechanised vehicles, with 14  infantry combat vehicles (IFV) Pizarro and several M113 armoured personnel carriers, which allow them the development of the entrusted missions.
