- Libre Hidalgo XXXI
31st Libre Hidalgo
On the 25th of May the BRILIB XXXI (mostly made up of the ‘Guadarrama XII’ Brigade) handed over authority to the BRILIB XXX (mostly made up of the ‘Galicia VII’ Brigade).
This marks the start of six months of hard work in close cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), leading the east sector of the Multinational Force, which is made up of various units from Brazil, El Salvador, India, Indonesia, Nepal and Serbia. Like their predecessors in BRILIB XXXI, they are trying to advance the objectives highlighted in the United Nations Security Council’s 1701 and 2373 Resolutions. These resolutions look to implement greater stability in the area, in order to achieve better development and protection of the civilian Lebanese population. To achieve this, the deployed force will continue collaborating with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) so that, gradually, they can assume their roles with guarantees of success.
The new chief of the Spanish contingent and the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) Sector East is General Rafael Colomer Martínez del Peral. This new deployment of the ‘Guadarrama XII’ Brigade is the fifth Brigade from Madrid to be deployed in Lebanese territory.
The main hub of the Spanish contingent can be found in the ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ Base where the Sector Headquarters, the Senior Staff of the Light Protected Task Force, Cavalry Unit, Engineering Unit, Logistical Unit, Transmissions Unit, Headquarters Unit, Base Support Unit and the Guardia Civil are all located.
