Plus Ultra II Brigade
The Plus Ultra II Brigade under the command of General Fulgencio Coll took over from its predecessor on 15 December 2003. It was made up of members from the 11th Mechanised Infantry Brigade “Extremadura” and was part of the Multinational Division under joint Spanish-Polish command operating in Iraq at the time.
The Plus Ultra II Brigade included 1,300 soldiers from Spain and 1,100 from Central America (El Salvador, Honduras and the Dominican Republic). They were charged with tasks related to rebuilding the country and maintaining security.
The contingent was deployed at the bases in Diwaniya and Najaf. It was composed of a General HQ and a Task Group as well as a Light Cavalry Squadron, a Special Operations Unit, a Helicopter Unit and an Engineers, Signals and Logistic Support Unit.
Its mission came to an end in April 2004.
