Grant of the Spanish army in Afghanistan

ASFOR X began its mission in Afghanistan as part of the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) after the transfer of authority on 14 January.

The bulk of the troops in ASPFOR X come from the 2nd Helicopter Battalion (based in Bétera, Valencia) but it also includes personnel from the 21st Tactical Signals Regiment (Marines, Valencia), as well as the 31st Logistic Support Unit (Paterna, Valencia).

The task force is made up of 265 Army soldiers and includes a field hospital manned by troops from the medical unit EMAT North (Zaragoza). It is composed of Command HQ, a Protection Unit, a Signals Unit, a Helicopter Unit and the National Support Element, which provides logistic support. It is under the command of Lieutenant Colonel J. Allúe G.

ASPFOR X maintains the structure of its predecessor: The Helicopter Unit, which is equipped with four UH-21 Cougars, and the Role 2 field hospital are at Kabul airport. The Command Unit and the Logistics Unit are at Camp Warehouse (Kabul).

Like the other forces in ISAF, the main aim of ASPFOR X is to provide a secure environment to allow reconstruction works to be carried out and to guarantee progress towards the democratisation of the country.
