ASPFOR XIV
ASPFOR XIV has just completed the relief of the previous Spanish task force, ASPFOR XIII, and is now in charge of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Badghis province (Afghanistan). Its commander is Colonel Fernando Lázaro.
The Transfer of Authority took place on 14 June 2006 at the Spanish base of Qala-i-Naw, capital of the Badghis province. It was presided over by General Salvador Fontenla Ballesta, commander of the 6th Parachute Brigade “Almogávares”,
ASPFOR XIV is made up of around 380 soldiers, most of them from the Parachute Brigade, which has its base in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid). The rest of its personnel come from the Operational Logistic Force and the Army Helicopter Forces.
