The Ceuta General Command prepares its first contingent for Iraq in the ‘Chinchilla’ Training Centre

Theories about cultural awareness, shooting exercises or check-points: these are some of the activities that the bulk of the first contingent which the Ceuta General Command (COMGECEU) has produced to send to Iraq are currently carrying out in the ‘Chinchilla’ Training Centre in Albacete, in preparation for the mission.

During the exercise, which began on the 11th of January and will finish on the 18th, the different units which make up the exercise have advanced in their specific formations, bringing them a step closer to the level which they must reach before taking over, which is planned for the end of spring.

Amongst them is the Protection Unit and the Instructors Unit. The first, which comes from the 2nd Legion ‘Duque de Alba’ Regiment, is responsible for providing security to the facilities and staff. For this reason, members of this unit practice combat elements such as shooting, protection against ambushes and improvised explosive devices or immediate reactions.

For the teams of instructors, who come from different units of the Command and whose role is fundamental given that it is a training mission and not an executive one, activities were geared towards their role as trainers such as, for example, how to organise and command a line of fire.

Furthermore, everyone received theory classes related to their mandates and the operation. In this way, the COMGECEU contingent proceeds with its preparation ahead of its debut on the Iraqi stage.
