The Operational Logistic Force integrates Spanish and NATO systems for Trident Juncture

For the first time in Spain, the General HQ of the Operational Logistic Force (CGFLO by its Spanish acronym) has successfully integrated the NATO systems LOGFAS (Logistic Functional Area Services) and NIRIS (Networked Interoperable Real-time Information Services) with Movistar’s commercial system ESYL (Spanish acronym for Tracking & Localisation Equipment) in the Movement Control Centre for exercise Trident Juncture.

The LOGFAS software of NATO’s CIS Agency (NCIA) is the only computer application for the planning, control and execution of force movements by land, sea and air. It is effective both for strategic deployment and for the establishment of a Movement Control Centre. For its part, NIRIS is an NCIA software to integrate positioning systems through several protocols, including one to receive GPS tracks from Movistar’s ESYL. The integration of the three systems offers a powerful tool to meet the needs and facilitate the management of a Movement Control Centre.

The Reception, Staging, Onward Movement (RSOM) process of exercise Trident Juncture has posed a challenge to these systems and to CGFLO personnel charged with their implementation and operation. In addition, the Civil Guard’s Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system has also been used because its personnel constitute the Force Protection Section of the Functional Staff of the Host Nation Support Coordination Joint Command in exercise Trident Juncture.
