The “Santo Domingo” base, National Command headquarters of the NATO High Readiness Land HQ in Spain, and the Sorolla Palace hotel have provided the setting for the meetings.
The Trident Juncture exercise will take place from 3 October to 6 November in different locations in Spain, Italy and Portugal and will comprise two phases. During the first, which will run from 3 to 16 October, a command post exercise will certify the NATO Response Force for next year (NRF 2016). In the second phase, from 21 October to 6 November, land, sea and air forces will conduct a joint operation to guarantee their interoperability within the framework of the Connected Forces Initiative launched by the Alliance.
The new concept of Very High Readiness Joint Task Force will also be put to the test during the exercise. By 2016, the VJTF will include a Spanish brigade and several battalions from allied nations under the command of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps (NRDC-ESP) headquarters in Bétera (Valencia).
