The CBRN Defense Regiment trains in a radioactive environment in Exercise Hades 26

Personnel from the 1st CBRN Company, of the CBRN Defense Regiment (RDNBQ) “Valencia” No. 1, conducted Exercise Hades 26 at the facilities of the Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Center (CIEMAT) in Madrid at the end of April.

Personnel from the 1st Company carried out radiological reconnaissance and decontamination missions in the underground collectors of CIEMAT, preceded by a phase of specific training that included vertical descent drills and operations in confined spaces under controlled technical conditions.

Operations in Confined Spaces

In addition, search and location exercises for radioactive sources were conducted in an urban environment in collaboration with various CIEMAT departments, including the Radiological Protection Service, the Waste Management Unit, and the Emergency and Physical Protection Unit.

Since 2022, this Regiment has regularly collaborated with CIEMAT in the field of nuclear and radiological defense through the planning of exercises involving the use of real sources, enabling the validation of the unit’s internal procedures for nuclear and radiological reconnaissance and decontamination.
