The Mountain Troops Command (MTM) units participating in Exercise “Cold Response 26” in Norway—the Mountain Infantry Regiment (RICZM) “América” No. 66 and the Mountain Infantry Regiment (RICZM) “Galicia” No. 64—are conducting an intensive training program in extreme cold-weather conditions.

As an example of this intensive training in Norway, the 1/64 Ski-Climber Company of RICZM 64 has conducted patrol base establishment exercises at the Elvegårdsmoen training area (Bjerkvik), setting up observation posts and living areas in the Norwegian taiga, as well as carrying out movement exercises, field living procedures, and position camouflage.

During nighttime operations, as part of their adaptation period to the Arctic polar climate, MTM troops conduct stealth movements that render them virtually undetectable and carry out night training exercises that include live-fire exercises.

Exercise “Cold Response 26” is led by the Norwegian Army and is part of NATO’s training plan. This multinational event is open only to allied countries with proven capabilities to operate in extreme cold conditions and is divided into two phases: a first integration phase—which includes movement, combat, and cold-weather living—and a second operational phase. It also represents a significant logistical challenge, from adapting equipment and resources to extreme winter conditions to the strategic projection and sustainment of forces in remote areas.
