The 'Grifo 25' exercise, a benchmark in the Land Force’s CBRN defense, comes to an end

The second phase of the “Grifo 25” CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) defense exercise, led by the CBRN Regiment “Valencia” No. 1 (RNBQ 1)—the reference unit for CBRN defense training within the Land Force—and conducted in the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, concluded on October 31st with the redeployment of participants to their home units.

The objective of the “Grifo 25” exercise, which began on October 20th at the Bétera training area and other locations in the province of Valencia, was to enhance the readiness of CBRN units from different armies and nationalities to respond to nuclear, biological, and chemical threat situations.

During this second phase, which began on October 25th and took place in various locations across the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, RNBQ 1 established several operational organizations, based on the participating units, which were challenged with highly realistic scenarios requiring a high degree of interoperability and specialization in the field of CBRN defense.

Alongside RNBQ 1, this phase also included participation from the CBRN defense units of the Military Emergency Unit, the Marine Infantry Brigade, the Air Deployment Support Squadron, the Civil Guard, the French CBRN Regiment, a CBRN unit from the French Air and Space Force, and the Italian CBRN Regiment (7th CBRN Defense Regiment “Cremona”), which is twinned with RNBQ 1.

Likewise, during the second phase, essential support continued to be provided by the 21st Signal Regiment, the “Jaime I” Base Support Unit in Bétera, the “Daoíz y Velarde” Garrison Support Unit in Paterna, and the 11th Logistic Support Group in Madrid.
