Moment of the technical explanation of the painting

The Buenavista Palace, headquarters of the Army General Staff, hosted the re-inauguration of the painting La Batalla de Tetuán on February 24th, following its restoration thanks to the collaboration of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation. The event, presided over by the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Amador Enseñat y Berea, was attended by distinguished civilian and military figures.

During the presentation, the condition of the painting prior to its restoration and the work carried out to restore its integrity were explained. The discovery of previously lost pictorial elements, such as figures and objects that contribute to the narrative of the scene, was highlighted, as well as the recovery of the artist’s signature, Enrique Estevan y Vicente, thereby clearing up any doubts regarding its authorship.

Sub-lieutenant Núñez, governor of the Buenavista Palace, has been a key figure in this process, promoting the initiative and overseeing the restoration work. Likewise, Beatriz Jiménez de Bermejo, conservator at the Institute of Military History and Culture, led the technical intervention carried out by the company Da Vinci Restaura.

The event concluded with the official installation of the painting in the Prim Hall and a toast in honor of the restoration of this artwork, which is part of the Army's artistic heritage and will be available for viewing during guided tours of the palace.
