The Minister of Defence, María Dolores de Cospedal, highlighted on 2nd March, during her  visit to the Spanish contingent deployed in Lebanon, the work and effort of Spanish troops in the United Nations mission (UNIFIL).

On her arrival, María Dolores de Cospedal was received by the Commander-in-Chief of the contingent, General Aroldo Lázaro,  who explained to her the deployment and missions of his control unit.

Cospedal emphasised that the military are “Spain’s best ambassadors in Lebanon” and points out that the Spanish contingent collaborate “in activities that directly benefit the Lebanon population.” In this way, she has shown her desire to continue participating in the population’s progress to help make the country prosper.

The head of Defence has pointed out that there are now few safety boundaries. There is hardly a difference between internal and external security and the work of the Spanish military in Lebanon helps keep Spain safe.

Cospedal gave a special mention to the 15 soldiers, 14 Spanish and one from El Salvador, who gave their lives to protect freedom, stability and our model of coexistence.
