Army and Navy together against cancer at a rugby match in Madrid.

On Saturday Feb. 4, World Cancer Day, the rugby teams from the Spanish Army and the Spanish Navy played a charitable match at the Complutense Campus. The game was organized by the Armed Forces’ Sports and Physical Education High Council and the collaboration of the Army and Navy Central and Regional Committees.

Before the game, there was another match of two Rugby-7 female teams; one from the Armed Forces and the other from the Complutense University of Madrid.

The rugby field was almost full. There was a row reserved for those who wanted to help the Spanish Association against cancer (AECC, in Spanish). The Spanish Army, the Navy, and the University wore rugby shorts 'to fight' this disease on a cloudy day that turned to be perfect for a rugby match.

The game could be followed, most of the time, live stream via the Spanish Army Facebook page (Ejército de Tierra). The Army team, which was quicker, was ahead of the game giving few options to its opponent since the latter was beaten by 98-7.

In a day in which spectators, players, and authorities enjoyed a rugby match, the real winner, however, was the fight against cancer since the fundraiser was earmarked entirely for funding AECC projects and GEICAM (a breast cancer research Group); both organizations are devoted to the prevention, awareness, and funding of cancer treatment research. Since this fight against cancer continues, you can still cooperate through the following bank accounts: AECC (ES13 0049 1892 6223 1020 5535) and GEICAM (ES20 2100 5654 1002 0019 8373).

Thank you, Sports High Council! Thank you, Spanish Navy! Thank you Spanish Army for your ability to convene and thank you to all of you who attended the game.
