The Light Forces Headquarters on the road to division level

Exercise ‘Roland’ has marked a turning point in the preparation that Light Forces Headquarters  is carrying out in order to be capable of leading a national or combined division level operational organisation, as it is the last to be undertaken successfully before achieving Initial Operational Capacity, which is foreseen for the month of November.

Divided into three phases, the final one was executed from 25th t0 28th June on Base ‘Teniente Muñoz Castellanos’, in Madrid. Previously, from 12th to 14th June the first phase had been undertaken in which the planning method had been established, and from 18th to 22nd June, a second phase in which the incidents had been designed.

The objective of the latter was to put to the test the procedures that are applied at a Headquarters of these characteristics, and to improve the co-ordination and integration of all the elements that make it up to assure its response capability in all scenarios and situations.

To confirm this, the members were presented with a series of situations to resolve in a scenario in which a conventional enemy force is considered but also with the presence of an asymmetrical enemy.

In all, 140 servicepersons have participated; as well as the Light Forces Headquarters members, there were representatives from the Field Artillery Command, Anti-aircraft Artillery, Army Helicopter Forces, 11th Mechanised Brigade, Legion Brigade and Paratroops Brigade, among others.
