With the clear aim of ‘trying to improve the quality of life of non-commissioned officers and troop’, the new command sergeant major of the Army, Mr. Antonio Blanco, today has taken up his post at Headquarters.

The ceremony has been presided over by the Chief of the Army Staff, Army General Coll, who has underlined that this post entails some ‘very important’ assignments, pointing out those of ‘setting an example and being a leader’.  ‘The times to come are going to demand this commitment with leadership and excellence more than ever,’ he emphasised during his address.
The new command sergeant major had already stressed this idea during the speech he addressed to those gathered in ‘Buenavista’ hall. ‘We are going to encounter situations that demand sacrifice and commitment,’ he acknowledged.

To attempt to aid his fellow soldiers, it is his idea to learn of the problems that they encounter in their daily work and convey them to the competent authority in order to try to find satisfactory solutions for everyone, while at the same time ‘providing them with incentives so that they, on their own, achieve making headway.

The best recommendation that he can give them in this sense is that they do not cease to prepare themselves regarding knowledge or to improve in instruction and, above all, ‘that they believe in what they are doing’, he added.

His first opportunity to start assuming his tasks as command sergeant major of the Army will be with personnel from Basque Country units, which he will visit shortly.

Third at the Post

Command Sergeant Major Antonio Blanco joined the Army 1977. He belongs to the General Basic Non-commissioned Officer Academy’s 4th class, and among his posts are Field Artillery and Logistics units.  He spent four years in the Eurocorps, until six months ago when he joined the 4th Deputy Army Inspection General, in Valladolid, where he was when he was selected for this post.

Thus, he becomes the third non-commissioned officer to occupy this post, which was created to boost motivation among the members of this scale and to be its institutional representative.
