The chief of the Turkish Armed Forces (a post equivalent to that of Chief of the Army Staff), Army General Hayri Kivrikoglu, is on an official visit in Spain from 5th to 8th March.  Within the scope of this visit, this morning the Turkish general has come to Army Headquarters in Madrid, where he has been received by the Spanish Chief of the Army staff, Army General Fulgencio Coll.

Together they have gone to the central courtyard of ‘Buenavista’ Palace, where an honour company from the King’s Immemorial 1st Infantry Regiment was in formation.  After listening to both countries’ National Anthems, both generals have reviewed the formation and have greeted the members of the Turkish and Spanish delegations.

Then, General Kivrikoglu and General Coll have held a personal interview in which they have dealt with the current situation of both armies and have exchanged points of view and experiences.  Following this interview, the Turkish Chief of the Army Staff has signed the Guest Book.

The Turkish and Spanish delegations have then attended a lecture in English titled Current Spanish Army Military Operations and Lessons Learned in the Fight against Improvised Explosive Devises, which has been followed by a discussion.

Army General Kivrikoglu left Army Headquarters at one o’clock in the afternoon to travel to Base ‘El Goloso’, 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade ‘Guadarrama’ headquarters.
