This type of weapons are those that have as main purpose the protection of the fighter. This classification includes shields, armor, helmets, etc., from different eras. It is worth mentioning the war pieces from two ducal houses armories such as Medinaceli and Infantado. Especially the first one which contains an important set of defensive garments used by the infantry during the 15th century, breastplates and helmets, as well as a set of harnesses for the heavy cavalry from the 16th century. The harness for jousting, composed of a mix of parts, along with the horse barding and chanfrons that belonged to the Duke of Alcalá de los Gazules, are other elements that stand out.
The parade harnesses are represented to a lesser extent, among them are worth mentioning the Italian half armor of the 2nd Duke of Feria, or the German one known as “the dolphins’” also within the Medinaceli collection. On the other hand, some pieces that came from Pompeo della Cesa Milanese workshops, are part of the Infantado’s collection material.
