Although it is significant numerally speaking, it is a very uneven collection. The first exhibits, excluding the Nasrid and archaeological items, are civilian swords from the 16th and 17th centuries. 18th century is represented by civilian dress swords, and mainly by standard-issue cavalry swords. The 19th century is the best represented with exhibits from the Spanish War of Independence, and a great number of standard-issue sabers from a lot of countries.

 

Civilian type weapons are also represented through knives, almaradas (a kind of dagger with a triangular shape blade), penknives, etc., as well as artistic reproductions manufactured in the workshops of the old Firearms Factory of Toledo.

 

Another very interesting case is the group of honor sabers belonging to the most outstanding soldiers of the 19th century such as Espartero, O’Donnell, Serrano, etc., made by the best silversmiths and bronzesmiths of the moment using fine materials.

 

Finally, we must mention the numerous examples of non-Western cold weapons, where again those from the Philippines stand out; but there are also Chinese, Japanese, Middle East and African examples.
