  • Military record

The 1st Information Operations Regiment is located in an area near Valencia’s city center, on the left bank of what was the river Turia, inside the San Juan de Ribera Barracks (Calle Serrano Flores No. 6 – CP 46010).

The 1st Information Operations Regiment was created on January 1st, 2019, as a consequence of the integration of the CIMIC Battalion and the PSYOPS Battalion of the 1st Intelligence Regiment, as per the General Instruction of the Army Staff concerning the Extraordinary Organizational Adjustments for 2019.

On June 25th, 2019, the Full Operational Capability (FOC) of the Regiment was declared. To celebrate the event, a military parade was held on July 4th, presided over by the then Chief of Staff of the Land Force (FUTER), Major General Alejandro Escámez Fernández. The activation of the Unit provided FUTER with capabilities to carry out Information and Civil-Military Cooperation activities (CIMIC) in Force Projection Operations. Until the end of 2020, the Regiment reported directly to the Chief General of the Land Force (FUTER). With the implementation of the new Army mission-oriented organization, the Regiment began to report to the San Marcial Division, along with the Paratroopers Brigade, the Army Airmobile Forces, the Special Operations Command and the Mountain Troops Command. This Division was created with an expeditionary, quick-response and strong joint/combined nature. On April 28th, 2021, (according to Ministerial Order 21/2021 of April 19th), the 1st Information Operations Regiment was granted the right to use the National colors in their flag form.

Since its creation, the Regiment has been fully incorporated into the Army’s most important activities.

In this manner, it participates every year in the Army’s benchmark exercise—Ejercicio TORO—, it has participated in the evaluation of the NRDC-SP as a Warfighting Corps in the exercise STEADFAST LEDA (2021), in joint exercises of the Operations Command (MOPS), in exercises of the San Marcial Division and its subordinate Units (Martial Summit, Empecinado, Infierno Blanco, etc.), as well as its own exercises. Concerning operations in Spain, it played a very active role in Operation Balmis and Operation Baluarte. As regards operations abroad, it twice took part in supporting the evacuation of collaborators in Afghanistan, deploying in Dubai and Pakistan, in addition to continuing to participate in EUTM in Mali and UNIFIL in Lebanon. The Information Environment Support Element (EaEI) of the European Union Tactical Group (EU Battlegroup) 2nd/22—recently certified in the Quick Lion 22 exercise—also provides teams throughout Spain.
