First contingent departs from Madrid

Corps Forward Element HQ NRDC-ESP

The personnel being deployed are part of the Corps Forward Element (CFE) of the Warfighting Corps HQ offered by Spain as the framework nation, on the Eastern flank.

A first group of military personnel from the HQ NRDC-ESP begin their deployment to Slovakia, to materialise Spain's leadership as the framework nation of the Warfighting Corps (WFC) outlined in the operational plans of the Alliance, as part of the Corps Forward Element of the WFC on the Eastern flank.

The deployment of this first contingent departs from Madrid airport to Slovakia, and is expected to be reinforced with more personnel in the coming weeks, until the total of this coordination element is completed. Their main task is to develop NATO's Deterrence and Defence plans on the Eastern flank.

This deployment once again demonstrates the firm commitment of Spain and its Armed Forces to our allies and Spain's resolute contribution to the Alliance's deterrence efforts.
